Alzheimer’s Disease

Chemicals and diseases February 21, 2014 10:33 pm

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease in Europe as well as globally. Environmental risk factors for Alzheimer’s have only recently been researched, with relatively few studies on the influence of toxic chemical exposures compared with other diseases. However, evidence is starting to emerge, and ongoing research is focusing on metal exposures (lead, aluminium, iron zinc, copper), pesticides, PCBs, and particulate air pollution (a complex mixture of gases, metals and volatile organic compounds and other constituents).
